Good evening everyone!
4/7 of the Three Men on a Walk team embarked on a 12 mile walk today which took us through the beautiful countryside of North Leicestershire. (Paul, Tim, Richard and Andrew)
The morning was crisp, with a slight dusting of snow, giving the landscape a wintry feel and picturesque views. The cold air was sharp, but fresh and certainly cleared out any cobwebs that may have settled from the night before. Visibility was good but not quite clear enough to see certain landscape attractions.
Our walk took in Beacon Hill, Smithland Wood, and Old John in Bradgate Park. Our first encounter was a short walk from our starting point in Woodhouse Eaves to Beacon Hill..........Apparently it has a Beacon on it and on a clear day you can see Lincoln Cathedral? For those not entirely sure of where it's coordinates are. This was the first time we noticed the strong winds high up, and boy did they have a bitter sting to them! The north easterly wind was pretty chilly too.
Anyway, moving on, we then dropped down from Beacon Hill and headed for Smithland Wood, and after a few negotiations with some muddy footpaths we entered what was a very pleasant environment with peaceful surroundings, and family's out enjoying a Sunday morning outing.
It was only a short walk through the wood, and after we exited on the other side, we continued on through Bradgate Park, and went up Old John. There were some references made to that but I shall keep names nameless.
This was not before of course a stop at the tea rooms, where Tim and I tucked into some home-made sarnies, whilst Paul and Richard nipped inside to the warmth, and got a pot of tea for two. (Felt like I should have practised my Butlering skills for Jekyll and Hyde) but Richard did such a wonderful job of spilling half of Jacko's tea on the tray, I thought I would leave them too it!
Well I think that is enough of my dribble for now, hope you enjoyed the read, and keep posted to the blog for more weird and wonderful tales of our adventures.
Andrew
