Just a quick update regarding training and the recent media announcement regarding
Woodmarket House.
Training is going well - we're doing plenty of short walks throughout the week and longer ones at weekends - we're also going to finalise a few dates to visit the Malvern range which we'll sort this weekend. As I mentioned in 'What's the big idea?' the Malvern range will offer us comparable distance and terrain so will be a good indicator for us regarding stamina and fitness.
Many of you will have seen in the local papers that Woodmarket House is to move from public to private ownership in late summer and I know that some of you have expressed concern that your money, raised through this event, may end up as an asset of a private company. Please rest assured that, whatever happens, whether Woodmarket House remains in public hands or moves into the private sector, there exists an independent 'Comfort Fund', protected by law and managed independently which is specifically for the benefit of Woodmarket's residents, longer term and respite residents, and which cannot be touched by either the local authority or private owners. David Merry, the manager of Woodmarket House has written a piece for us which you can see on his own page - just follow the links on the right. Regardless of your views regarding Public vs Private ownership of care homes, please don't forget that nobody owns the people who reside in these homes - they still desperately need care and little home comforts, they still like to watch telly, they still like to have entertainment evenings, they still love to go on trips out and so on, so please put politics aside and support this hugely worthy cause.
