Wall....what wall?!

Well that's day one done and dusted and it wasn't until we'd reached Heddon-on-the-wall (don't know about you but I reckon there's a clue in there somewhere) some 15 miles into the walk that we actually laid eyes on Hadrian's Wall for the first time. And very impressive it is too. It takes a bit of quiet time (fat chance with Jacko!) and a few moments of contemplation to really appreciate what the Romans achieved here.

As you already know we were blessed with unbelievably hot and dry weather and so it's set to continue until Monday at least. 18.5 miles may not sound particularly long if you say it quickly, but believe me it is particularly when this first section is mainly along Tarmac and you're carrying a 50lb wardrobe on your back! The city of Newcastle is beautiful at its centre and we could certainly appreciate the investment which had clearly been made along its docklands area. The village of Heddon was a welcome relief at the 15 mile point and who could resist a cold pint of lager on such a hot day? None of us that's for sure. And so, here we are in the little hamlet of Harlow Hill, breaking camp ready for another days adventure. The sun's shining, the birds are tweeting and we're about to go for a stroll along a wall. Ain't life grand?!

  3. Good morning happy campers. Am so pleased that you've got such beautiful weather again - I hope walking that bit further today makes today's walk a bit more chilled. Make sure you take lots of piccies.

Stay creamed up boys - the thought of you all having to rub after sun into each other's red bits just doesn't bear thinking about!

Interesting fact about the hamlet of Harlow Hill that I think the old man of the beacon might appreciate - it's rumoured that on a clear day, if you're lucky, you can see the A5!! :-D (Sorry Jacko) ;-)

    Have a great day!
